Swiss “Black Forest” Bear Cub Umbrella Stand, circa 1890.
Carved in the form of a very cute bear cub standing beside a intricately carved tree stump, circa 1890. Variations on this piece can be seen in the chapter on hall stands in our book "Swiss Carvings" The Art of the Black Forest.
