A Swiss “Black Forest” Carved Walnut Double Tobacco Box, modeled as Reynard the Fox and hare standing with arms linked, circa 1890.
The fox and hare are both wrapped with scarfs and carrying over the shoulder bags. Reynard being the gentleman is holding an original umbrella to shelter them both.
It is incredibly rare to find a piece of this age with the umbrella. A similar carving is pictured in “Swiss Carvings The Art of The Black Forest” by Daniels. Page 62.
