This is an intricately carved Black Forest walnut Canterbury. A Canterbury is a portable piece of furniture used for carrying sheet music or magazines. While most traditional Canterburies are mobile because of their casters, this particular Canterbury was constructed more like a basket to be carried from place to place, although it is rather large in size. The log handle allows for it to be moved about, while either side of the log roof opens for quick access to its contents. This is an exceptionally unique and beautiful piece.
